Barbara Dannehl Wray

-SAVANNAH- Barbara Dannehl Wray, 79, died peacefully Monday, May 2, 2011. Born on October 28, 1931 in Charleston, WV she was the daughter of Elizabeth Burruss and Robert Valentine Dannehl. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, William Thomas Wray, Jr.

She was a graduate of St. Catherine's School in Richmond, VA and Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Barbara enjoyed reading, traveling, and most especially spending time with her family. She was a life-long volunteer with many organizations including serving as President of the Episcopal Church Women of St. Timothy's in Wilson, NC where she was responsible for organizing the efforts to open the Community Soup Kitchen of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. The Soup Kitchen still remains a thriving part of the
community. In more recent years she volunteered at the Bluffton Art League, Heyward House, and Calhoun Station in Bluffton, SC.

She enjoyed genealogical research and was a member of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of North Carolina, First Families of Virginia,
Daughters of Colonial Wars, and the Jamestowne Society.

Surviving are her three daughters and sons-in law, Lisa Wray Longino George of Dallas, TX; Bridget Wray Gardner Jim of Savannah; and Barbara Wray Tamarri Joe of Florence, SC; Five grandchildren which she adored: Lane Fleming Longino of Dallas, TX; Elizabeth
Grier Gardner of Augusta, GA; Kendall Fleming Gardner of Atlanta, GA; William Will Thomas Wray Tamarri and Anna Chapin Tamarri of Florence, SC. Other survivors include her aunt, Virginia Ginny Burruss of Hot Springs, VA; her cousins Kitty Burruss of Alexandria, VA; Pixie Toggweiler Mike, and their children Robert and Sarah Toggweiler; and, her step-grandchildren Michelle Longino of New Orleans, LA; George Longino, IV of Dallas, TX; Howard Longino Leigh of Raleigh, NC.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the loving staff at Spanish Oaks Retreat and Hospice, and to her special care-giver, Wanda Edwards.

Graveside service will be Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances be made to the Community Soup Kitchen of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1527, Wilson, NC 27894 or the Alzheimer's Association, 201 Television Circle, Savannah, GA 31406.

Lisa,Bridget and Barbara, So sorry to hear of Big Barbara's death. Dave and I really enjoyed the last few visits we had with her in Hilton Head.
