She was 'Nana' to many. At a young age she taught me that 'family' means more than blood relation or last names. She had the capacity to love anybody who was willing to bend, lean or squat down to hug her in all of her 4-foot-few-inches glory. When she smiled, you smiled. When she laughed, you laughed. When she offered you an oatmeal cream pie, you took it even if you didn't want it. Many of us know the feeling of 'I wish I had insert regret here.' And this morning I found myself reciting such regrets with fluidity. I wish I would have come to Savannah more often to see her. I wish I would have sent more pictures of the children. I wish I were in those pictures of her last Christmas. But what Nana also taught her vast family is this ~ it doesn't matter where you are or what you're doing, she's still your Nana.

Nana from Savannah' was a women that we will remember as many things to many people. She was Nana to my children; she was Dippy and a second mom to me; she could be your best friend or your worst enemy if you tried to hurt any of her family; she had that 'Nana smile' that we will remember in all of the photos; she had the laugh that came from her belly and would take your breath away; she gave hugs in three's, saying 'love ya, love ya, love ya' as she squeezed as hard as she could; she loved wedge shoes or anything to make her taller; she loved the 'beauty parlor' for the once a week 'hair do' as well as the conversations; but most of all she loved her family and just wanted everyone to be happy. Lewie has his 'Dip' by his side now, joining their 'Jerry Boy', and they're all are watching over the Ellis 'family'. ......... Love you forever, like you for always.
