Helen Stokes Remion

Tybee Island – Helen Stokes Remion, 99, passed away Monday, November 21, 2011 at her home on Tybee Island while under the care of Hospice Savannah.

She was born in Savannah, daughter of Thomas Samuel Stokes and Cecelia Belle Barber Stokes. Mrs. Remion lived most of her life in Savannah and Thunderbolt until moving to Tybee more than twenty years ago. Helen joined the Lutheran church as an adult and was a faithful servant having served on Altar Guild and as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.

Helen volunteered with the Thunderbolt Library and the local Humane Society. She was a member of the Sewing Club, Senior Citizens, Golden Agers and the Sunshine Club.

She was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, John B. Remion, Sr. as well as her three sisters Estelle, Frances, and Marion; daughter Joyce McDowell and granddaughter Angela Jones.

Surviving are her daughter, Gloria R. Leonard; son John B. Remion, Jr.; grandchildren Kathryn Williams Steve, Hank McDowell Lauren, John "Sparky" Leonard Lisa and Cecelia Coggins Sam; six great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 26th, 2011 at The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer conducted by Pastor Wayne Cobb. A reception will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall.
