Stephen W. Zadach, Sr.

THUNDERBOLT, GA - Stephen W. Zadach, Sr., beloved husband, father and grand-father, died peacefully on Thursday, November 24, 2011, at his home under the care of Hospice Savannah.

Although born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he spent his entire life in Chatham County. He graduated from Savannah High School in 1959 and served his military duty in the Army Reserves, Company B, 3d Battalion, 11th Special Forces Group Airborne during the Vietnam conflict.

Steve was employed by and served as president of Georgia Stevedore Association for the past twenty-two years. Prior to this, he was employed with Smith & Kelly Company for thirty years.

He was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed playing with the "First Wednesday Group" and his Saturday morning blitz at Bacon Park Golf Course.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Kicklighter Gignilliat, his brother Jeffrey B. Zadach, and his step-father-in-law Edwin W. Carson.

Surviving are his wife and best friend, Jeanie Smith Zadach: his daughter and son-in-law, Karen Z. and Paul Thompson of Bulloch Co., GA; his son, Stephen W. Zadach of Savannah, GA; his grand-daughter, Rachel Thompson; his twin sister and brother-in-law, Celia and Randall Evans of Gainesville, FL; his nephews, Jeffrey B. Zadach, Jr. and his wife Alethia of Thunderbolt, GA, William T. Cobb of St. Petersburg, Fl and Walter S. Smith of Byron, GA; his nieces, Marianne Cobb, Molly Cobb Smith of Gainesville, FL and Amber Shirley of Macon, GA; and his beloved dog, Carson.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 30th, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel. The memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to Wesley Oak United Methodist Church, 3124 E. Victory Dr., Savannah, GA 31404 or Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
