SAVANNAH – Mrs. Edith McDonald Pierce, 89, widow of Mr. Arnie Lee Pierce, was welcomed into the Arms of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at NHC HealthCare in North Augusta, SC.
She was born in Metter, GA, on March 21, 1922, to the late Johnny Horton McDonald and Estelle Owens McDonald. She moved to Savannah, GA, at age 18, where she lived most of her life, until several years ago, when she moved to North Augusta, SC, to be closer to her daughters, due to her declining health.
Edith was a faithful, long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Savannah, GA, from 1948 to the present, where she taught the Loyal Workers Sunday School Class for over 30 years, as well as was involved in all church activities.
Edith retired from Union Camp, International Paper, in the position of clerk typist, on June 30, 1982, after working there for 34 years.
She is survived by two daughters: Cheryl P. Mattox and her husband, Jerry, of Augusta, GA, and Nancy P. Fuller and her husband, Dick, of North Augusta, SC; two grandchildren: Kelly M. Johnson and her husband, Ray, of Evans, GA, and Chad J. Mattox of Augusta, GA; four great-grandchildren: Dalstin Mattox, Caiden Mattox, Mattox Johnson and Audrey Johnson. She is also survived by one sister, Ethel Bollinger, of Waycross, GA, and one brother, Hugh Broughton McDonald and his wife, Kathleen Kitty, of Rincon, GA, and a sister-in-law, Wanda McDonald, of Blue Springs, MO, widow of her brother, Vasco.
In addition to her husband, who died on January 26, 1977, Edith was preceded in death by her parents, by her youngest daughter, Vicki P. Johnson, on February 12, 2007 surviving husband, Mark and by her only son, R. Wayne Pierce, on April 23, 2009; also by four brothers: Vernon McDonald, E.J. McDonald, Norman McDonald and Vasco McDonald.
Visitation will be at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, in Savannah, GA, on Monday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
The funeral service will be at Immanuel Baptist Church in Savannah, GA, on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at 1:00 pm, with the Reverend Terry Doss officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Savannah, GA.

I visited Immanuel a couple times while a Lt in the Coast Guard there. From reading the obituary, she was a great benefit to her church and family. I'm sure she will be missed.
