Celebrating the life of

G. Bradford Palmer, Jr.

July 01, 1924 - December 10, 2011

G. Bradford Palmer, Jr.

Savannah, Georgia - George Bradford Palmer, Jr., 87, died December 10, 2011 in Savannah, Georgia. Born July 1, 1924 in Orange, New Jersey to George and Elizabeth Prizer Palmer, he was educated at the Carteret School, Princeton University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and Yale Law School. He joined the New York City law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and in 1957 became a member of the Waterbury, Connecticut firm of Carmody & Torrance, where he remained until 1995 when he became of counsel.

In 1945, Brad was deployed to Europe as a member of the 87th Infantry Division, the last infantry division to be activated in World War II. As a Private First Class and truck driver, he participated in the siege of Metz and the Battle of the Bulge.

A senior partner at Carmody & Torrance, his law practice included general business matters, trusts and estates, labor and employment and employee benefits--but his wisdom and effectiveness transcended any
particular legal discipline. To clients, to everyone at the firm and to lawyers and judges throughout the state, he was a modest, wise and effective advocate, a patient mentor, a trusted counselor, friend, and
a consummate gentleman. He was a role model with a keen interest in assisting younger lawyers. His extraordinary sense of balance, priorities and values guided his personal and professional life.

As a resident of Woodbury, Connecticut, Brad served as Chairman of the Board of Tax Review and Town Moderator and as a trustee of The Mattatuck Museum, The Connecticut Community Foundation and Waterbury
Hospital. Together with his wife, he moved to The Landings in Savannah, Georgia in 1993 where he enjoyed golf and meeting new people. In 2007 they moved to The Marshes.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Oxnard Palmer, daughters and sons-in-law, Page Palmer and Steve Butkus of Sudbury, MA and Robbie and Paul Hertneky of Hancock, NH, and two grandchildren,
Peter and Laura Butkus. He was predeceased by a third daughter, Laura Bradford Palmer.

The funeral service will be at 11 o'clock on Wednesday, December 14 at the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church with Reverend John Wall
officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The
Connecticut Community Foundation for the Virginia and Brad Palmer Fund, 43 Field Street, Waterbury, CT 06702 or the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church, 50 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411.
