Marian "Lou" Strawbridge Crowe

Marian Strawbridge Crowe, widely known as "Lou" died suddenly on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Lou was born in St. Mary's, PA to William and Marian Strawbridge on August 17, 1931. After completing high school in New Castle, PA she entered Georgetown University School of Nursing, graduating in 1953. During the Korean War she met and married Navy Lt. John D. Crowe and joined him overseas in Newfoundland. After the war they returned to civilian life and continued to travel both domestically and abroad. They settled and started their family in New Orleans, LA and after several relocations spent most of their life in Chatham, NJ. John's business continued to take Lou on many adventures, from the Caribbean to Europe and even a trip to China and Japan where she christened a new ship for John's company, Alcoa Steamship Co.

After many happy years in Chatham, retirement brought the couple to Savannah, GA at The Landings. Retirement was not slow for the couple. Lou took up golfing and tennis and was named "Most Improved Golfer" in 1987. She will most be remembered by grandmothers and children alike for her doll clothes creations. She was often at craft shows in the area but frequently had shoppers at her home looking through her extensive doll clothes inventory. Her granddaughters will treasure memories of Christmas where clothes from "Lou's Creations" were under the tree for their Barbie dolls and American Girl dolls. Lou was a regular volunteer at Med-Bank which provides prescriptions for the needy.

Lou is survived by her beloved husband and life partner, John Crowe; her children, William "Bill" Mary Ann Crowe of Wayne, PA, Susan Michael Foley of Milwaukee, WI and Maureen Terri Fitzpatrick of Chatham, NJ; grandchildren, Conor Crowe, Moira Crowe, Rory Crowe, Megan Foley, Kayleigh Fitzpatrick, Sean Fitzpatrick and Brendan Crowe.

A Vigil Service will be held on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Following the service the family will be receiving friends until 8:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church followed by a private burial at Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Benedictine Military School, 6502 Seawright Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
