Celebrating the life of
Judith Guthrie Byers
August 16, 1941 - February 23, 2012
Judith Guthrie Byers, 70, of Pooler Georgia, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2012 after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was a bright light in the lives of everyone she knew. She will be greatly missed. Judy was born to the late William Edgar and Lena DuCuennois, August 16, 1941, in Glens Falls, NY. She graduated from St. Peter's Hospital School of Nursing in Albany NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Edmund Guthrie, in 1963, her husband, Charles Dwayne Byers, in 1980, and her brother Francis Reginald DuCuennois in 1990.
Although she claimed to be shy, Judy was an incredibly dynamic, outgoing woman that loved to be a mom or a grandmother to everyone, not just her own family. She was truly special. Over her career she worked as a RN in California and North Carolina. At the end of her career she supervised training in medical technology. Judy moved to Pooler in 2005 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She stayed involved in retirement by working part time at Mowers Consulting and serving as the secretary of the Benedictine Athletic Association. Judy lived her eventful life with a strength and unfailing optimism that allowed her to care for her family and find joy in every situation, even in the most challenging times.
Judy is survived by four children: Elizabeth Lamb Joe of Macon, GA; Kim Rowe of Kailua-Kona, HI; Bill Guthrie Jill of Savannah, GA; Wendy Maley Tim of Johns Creek, GA. She is also survived by five thoroughly adored grandchildren Ryan, Patrick, Jack, Ellie, & Quincy.
A Rosary Service will be held at 4:00pm, immediately followed by visitation to 7:00pm, Sunday, February 26th at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 noon at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wilmington Island. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6600 Abercorn St., Suite 206, Savannah, GA 31406.
Mrs. Judy was a dear friend and a wonderful neighbor. She was the first person I ran to when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. She was so excited for me. I will never forget her smile and her laugh. She truly loved with her whole heart and was so enthusiastic. I'm glad my daughter was able to meet Mrs. Judy before we moved away. I just wish I could have told her that I was pregnant again. I also wish I could have given her one last hug. You are missed dearly, Mrs. Judy. We love you always! Jason, Amber, Addison, and Baby JJ

My Stepmom, Judy, enhanced my life thru a difficult period. My teen years were filled with fantastic opportunities, experiences and quiet times that made my entire adulthood flourish beyond the imagination. I really thought she was so 'cool' too, being a Nurse....the only nurse I knew as a child, and she knew EVERYTHING medically. I also was fortunate to have her Mother, Lena DuCuennois- live and care for me. I felt SO cared for as a teen. I will always love you, and thank you for sharing Bill and Liz with me, Judy.
- Kim Rowe, Kailua-Kona, IN

We have 33 years of memories and fun times together. Let me just say that no one could have a better friend. Judy was so kind, sincere and honest to a fault. These characteristics were passed down to her children and grandchildren. She was so proud of them all. Did I forget to mention that she had a fantastic sense of humor? She was so much fun to be with and could laugh at her own mistakes. To know Judy was to love her. My life was enriched with her as my friend-also my 'sister'. Thank you Judy for all that you've given. You are our angel.

Ernie and I were so sadded to learn of Judy's health and passing so quickly. We think often of the memories we shared when we moved to Huntington Beach, CA where Judy and her family were among the many on our street who welcomed us. Judy contined to be a wonderful neighbor, her door was always open, which meant that our two sons, and the other kids in the Circle would gather there because Judy had a way of making everyone feel at home. She was always so warm, had a great sense of humor, and was a person we admired for her genuiness and her dedication to her family. We kept in touch since we moved to Minnesota in 2001 and had a great visit from Bill and his co-worker, Steve. Our hearts go out to you, Bill, Jill and your family, also to Liz and her family. She's at peace now and will always be with you.
- Ernie and Judy Thomsen, Vining, MN
