Celebrating the life of

Dr. Patrick Andrew Bremer

November 10, 1955 - March 04, 2012

Dr. Patrick Andrew Bremer

Dr. Patrick Andrew Bremer
Dr. Patrick Andrew Bremer, 56 passed away Sunday March 4, 2012 at his residence in Bluffton, SC. He was a native of Savannah and a 1973 honors graduate of Benedictine High School. Patrick went on to graduate with honors from the University of Georgia with a BS in Zoology, an MBA, and was president of his class and a 1982 honor graduate of the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine.
From the time he was 10 years old, all Patrick wanted to do was care for animals. Patrick was an excellent veterinarian, receiving the Veterinarian of the Year award in Savannah, GA in 1999. Patrick was thoroughly professional while at the same time genuinely caring and compassionate; truly loved by his animal and human clients alike. Patrick was recently honored by receiving a position on the Board of Stewards for the UGA School of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association. Throughout his career Patrick was strongly active in stray adoptions and spay and neuter programs in the Coastal Empire, especially on Tybee Island.
Patrick was a member of the Hibernian Society and a communicant of the Catholic faith. Patrick was the second oldest in a family of five, always up to some mischief among his siblings. His dry wit and humor were both entertaining and enlightening. Patrick loved music and was a member of St. James Drum and Bugle Corp and received a letter for four years in Benedictine's Military Band. Patrick also loved the water and was an excellent slalom skier better than Billy. Those who knew Patrick will remember his favorite jestful greeting … "Long time no see … the longer the better!!!"
Patrick was preceded in death by his father William J. Bremer, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Emily Catherine Bremer of Athens, GA, his mother, Carolyn E. Bremer of Bluffton, SC, one sister, Julia Catherine Bremer of Bluffton, SC, three brothers, William J. Bremer III of Savannah, John E. Bremer of Tybee Island, and Joseph M. Bremer of Bluffton, SC. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 AM, Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to Heifer International, Chatham County Humane Society, or an animal charity of your choice.

I had just met Dr. Bremer in December when I took my lil bentley in to see him. He was the first vet to ever take the time to call me personally and talk to me about my baby. We just left Dr. Bremer's office on Friday when he was telling me he was a little stumped by bentley's condition but not to worry because we would figure it out. The caring and concern Dr. Bremer showed us was incredibly touching and he will be truly missed! My deepest sympathies go out to his family and they are in my prayers.

- Paige Cope, Bluffton, SC

So sorry to hear about Patrick passing away. Emily - please know that my thoughts are with you today.

I am so sorry for you pain of Pat's early entry into heaven. God has a better plan for him. You all will always have a wonderful place in our hearts. God Bless You All. Mary K. Sheehan Farrahar

- Melissa Coleman, Savannah, GA

Dear Bremer Family - The sudden loss of Patrick has had such a far reaching effect on the people who knew him and your family. Having known him best during the summers of my youth, followed by my first years at UGA, Patrick will always be that dashing, handsome young man who could waterski barefoot and who taught Hazel, the stray dog who found her way into our crazy college life, to 'Capitulate!' instead of 'sit' and 'Recapitulate!' to stand up. I was always so impressed with that. The years rolled by, but seeing him every once in a while on Tybee was like going back in time - good times. He was one of the hardest working people I ever met and I hope one day we'll meet again. I'm sure he's giving some fortunate dog a belly rub right now and telling them they're a good dog. He will be missed.

- Judey Whelpley Kressly, Easton, PA

I know your grief and know that you will miss Patrick, each of you in your own way. Patrick , as I remember him , was always the one who had the correct answer but was smart enough not to give it necessarily depending on the circumstances at the time. His absence will surely be felt at all levels and his wit will truly be missed. The comfort ,if there is one at a time like this, is he will feel no more pain and shed no more tears as he is in the confines of something better than any of us have ever seen ,but will join him as they say ,in the by and by. All of you young Bremers please take care of your Momma and Emily as the days go by.I love and miss all of you, Hauf

- Thomas Bachman Sr, Shreveport, LA

I knew Patrick as the Brother of one of my Dearest Friends--our Julia. I loved the stories she told of his crazy wit, unending patience and love of all animals, and his being one ofthe best brothers anyone could ever dream of. The times I met him were always filled with light and joy: like his wonderful spirit. I'll wash the dog and brush the cats and take blankets to the local animal shelter to make Patrick smile in my direction. My love to Carolyn, Julia, and the rest of the Legendary Bremer Clan.

- Debbie Lester, Danielsville, GA

The community and the animals have lost a great person way too soon. RIP DR B

Dr. Bremer, we will always remember your many kindnesses toward us and our beloved pets. When our six year old Bouvier had incurable cancer and his pain was unbearable, you came to the house early on a Saturday morning. You helped me come to the right decision for our 16 year old Lhaso Apsa. You were there for us with several rescue dogs. You were a kind and gentle spirit who left us too soon.

- Junie and Vince Merkle, Tybee Island, GA

It has been my pleasure to be a part of your veterinary team at Buckwalter Veterinary Clinic. I always looked forward to come to work which we all know is unusual. But you made work a much better place to be. I will never forget all the great things you have done for myself, my pets and the community. I will miss you so much.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Bremer last fall when he visited Athens to attend an Alumni Association Board Meeting. He was excited to be representing his alma mater as a new alumni board member. Very sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Bremer. He saved Little Girl's eye when there was an 80% chance of losing it after an injury and was the only vet who could EVER handle psycho kitty. He saved Prince from cancer and gave us another 5-6 years with him. When it was the end for Prince he came out to the house and sat in the dirt in the yard with us and explained everything as he put him down. Didn't make us carry the 120 pound dog to the office. And never charged us for that either. He was so patient and kind with me as a 'new puppy mommy' when we got our puppy Bodie. He was a good man, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family. We will miss you Dr. Bremer!

The moment I met you, Dr. Bremer, I felt that you were an extraordinary man. I walked out of your new practice in Bluffton thinking that the world was a better place because of you. Dr. Bremer you are a kind, loving, compassionate human being. Thank you for the consideration and care that you gave to my animals; thank you for being always so generous with your time and for sharing your insights about animal’s behavior with me. I am truly grateful to have had the chance of knowing you and I am so deeply sadden by your unexpected departure. You are one of these people that make the world a better place and you will not be forgotten. Sunday we all have lost a great vet and a dear friend. I will pray the gods of all the creatures to welcome you. May the spirits of all the animals that you have helped and loved in this life comfort and accompany you for the rest of the time. We love you and we will miss you deeply. Sincerely, Giuliana Gusmaroli
