Laurence E. Elliott, Lt. Col. USAF, Ret
April 12, 1922 - April 12, 2012
Savannah- Lt. Col. Laurence Edward Elliott, USAF Retired, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2012, the date of his 90th birthday, at the Lowman Home in Chapin, SC.
Mr. Elliott was born in Prattville, Alabama, the son of Alfred F. Elliott and Ethel M. Elliott. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII as a navigator on B-17 aircraft and later in the Air Force Reserve. He graduated from The University of Alabama in 1955 with a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering. He was employed by Union Camp Corporation in the Multiwall Division and retired after 32 years. He was a member of Oak Park Masonic Lodge and a lifelong faithful worker in the church with his final membership at Grace United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Franklin A. Elliott.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gladys Ross Elliott; sons, James L. Elliott Beth, J. Gary Elliott Joyce; daughters, Angela E. Mishoe Jim, Lisa E. Chism Tony; 6 grandsons; 6 granddaughters and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give special thanks to his caretakers for their diligent and loving care during these last months of his life.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 16, 2012. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, and funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM. Interment at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens will immediately follow the service.
