Celebrating the life of
Mark Mitchell Silvers, Jr.
August 16, 1945 - April 23, 2012
Mark Mitchell Silvers, Jr. died April 23, 2012. Mark was born in Savannah, Georgia on August 16, 1945, and was the only child of Mark Mitchell Silvers, Sr. of Savannah and Faye Bashinsky Silvers of Tennille, Georgia. Mark is survived by his three children, Laura Laurie Silvers Ross, Lisa Silvers Kaminsky Danny, and Mark Mitchell Silvers III, his two grandchildren, Helena Wells Ross and Robert Adger Ross, Jr., and his long-time, devoted companion, Bonnie Lee Smith.
Mark graduated Savannah Country Day School, where he excelled in academics, football, golf and soccer. He attended Louisiana State University for two years on a golf scholarship before transferring to the University of Georgia. There he graduated the School of Business Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in accounting. Mark then attended the University of Georgia, School of Law, where he graduated valedictorian in 1969.
Mark's distinguished career as a tax lawyer in Savannah was cut short by a 1997 heart attack that ultimately forced his retirement. Prior to retirement he became, and thereafter remained, a motorcycle enthusiast until his death.
Funeral services are private.
Remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, Georgia 31416.
My father and I had nothing but great respect for Mark as an attorney and our friend. He was a great man and father, and will be deeply missed. Peace and God Bless.

Dear Family I am so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. Our Fathers were friends and, although we did not know each other well and haven't seen each other in years, I have two fond memories of Mark I would like to share with you. When I was 12 years old I led the Junior Tournament at the old Bacon Park Municipal Golf Course for four holes until my game fell apart on my way to a round that was so disastrous, yet unique, that it was written up in the paper. Mark, as usual, won the tournament. A number of years later, my Father, who was in his 70s, had a heart attack after shooting a 41 on the front side and Mark saved his life by performing CPR until Bubba Victor arrived to take over. Mark was a fine man who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Robert

I had the pleasure of knowing Mark and hung out many times with him and Bonnie, also riding and camping. He was a kindhearted and generous man and treated everyone with respect. I remember him telling me once that he saw a couple on the highway broken down and he picked them up and took them to get what they needed to fix their car and paid for it. They said what do we owe you and he said 'nothing, just go and do the same thing for someone else'. He will be missed. God Bless You Mark.
