Carl Howard  Orvin

Carl H. Orvin, Sr., 87, Senior Master Sergeant, Retired, of the Georgia Air National Guard 158th Fighter Squadron, life-long resident of Savannah, passed away on May 3, 2012, at Azalealand Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis E. Orvin, Sr., mother, Thelma F. Conneff, and brother, Louis E. Orvin, Jr.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Hannah Marie Orvin Franklin , son, Carl H. Orvin, Jr. Janet, daughters, Judith M. Orvin, Kathy O. Powell , Carol A. Orvin of Alpharetta, son, John K. Orvin Teresa; four granddaughters to whom he was lovingly known as "Poppy"; his loving sister, Rose Orvin Davis Thomas L., uncle, Robert Fennell Florence, several nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins.
Carl enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 as radio operator during World War II, returning to graduate in 1948 from Commercial High School. He was active in the development of the sports program, running cross country, football, and playing basketball. He was an avid sports fan. He enlisted in the Georgia Air National Guard in 1949 and was a veteran of the Korean War, retiring in 1979. He was awarded Victory Medal for WWII, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Ribbon and Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 6, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m., at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Reverend David Koetter and Reverend Mark Ross, co-celebrant, will be held at St. James Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2012. A private interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. James Catholic Church, Hospice Savannah, or Azalealand Nursing Home.

What a full and wonderful life he had with such great love from such a wonderful family that makes it all worthwhile.
