Arthur Norman Whelden

Arthur Norman Whelden, 84, died Friday, May 18, 2012 at Savannah Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born in Barnstable, MA son of the late Arthur L. and Edith Erikson Whelden. During his childhood, his family owned a poultry farm where he worked until he joined the United Sates Navy, serving during World War II. After the war, he earned a technical degree in engineering subsequently becoming licensed by the FCC and working for Acton Environmental Testing Corporation, a company that tested electronics, including for space travel. After retirement from Acton, Mr. Whelden joined Wang Laboratories Inc., retiring in 1995 and moving to Savannah. His wife, Anne Elizabeth Whelden preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Colleen Whelden of Cherokee Village, AR; Victor and Melissa Whelden of Rincon, GA; three daughters and a son-in-law, Lois and Robert Libby of Pepperell, MA; Sandra Whelden Terry of Rock Hill, SC; Debra Goransson Tim of York, SC; grandchildren, Kimberly Salem, Matthew Libby, Steven Goransson, David Goransson and great grandchild; Kristen Salem.

Funeral service will be private.
