Robert Francis Flaherty

Robert Francis Flaherty
SAVANNAH – Robert "Bob" Flaherty died peacefully at home after a long illness. He is the son of Mary Fenton Flaherty and Patrick Joseph Flaherty of Boston. Bob was born in Boston, MA, the last of six children. His sister Marguerite and brothers William and Thomas predeceased him. Bob and his wife, Betsy, retired to The Landings in 1997.
He graduated from Northeastern University, received his law degree from Suffolk University and a Masters degree in tax from Boston University. Bob was Assistant Treasurer at Commercial Union Assurance Company of London, England. He also brought his accounting skills to the organization of condominiums where he lived in Boston, MA and Greenwich, CT.
Bob and Betsy enjoyed traveling to many exotic places from Burma to Viet Nam and Kenya to Namibia. He was an accomplished wild life animal photographer, an avid reader of history, and a student of classical music.
His friends enjoyed his wry wit and he will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Betsy Banghart Flaherty, his sister, Mary Flaherty, of Savannah, his brother, John Flaherty, of Edgewater, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitfield Ave. Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery.
Friends and family are invited to a reception at the family home following the interment.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Nancy N. and J. C. Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion, c/o the St. Josephs/Candler Foundation, 5353 Reynolds St., Savannah, GA 31405, to benefit cancer patients with financial needs.

We are saddened by your loss, Betsy. You were the reason Bob fought so hard to live. You gave him so much for which to live: unconditional love, a positive attitude always, cheerful stories, time with Mary, time with dear friends, a happy home and a happy outlook at life no matter what the odds. We have lost a dear friend, but he is at peace and you did all you could to keep him healthy and happy. Most of all, you gave him life. We love you.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your loved one. May you find comfort in the fond memories of your loved one. The Bible also offers words of comfort during times of bereavement. It is comforting to know the Bible speaks of a time when “death will be no more” at Rev 21:3, 4. During your time of bereavement you can find comfort from reading the Bible.
