Celebrating the life of

Marjorie Ann Dotson Gruver

October 17, 1925 - June 11, 2012

Marjorie Ann Dotson Gruver

Marjorie Ann Dotson Gruver "Margie", devoted mother and grandmother, passed away on June 11, 2012 at the age of 86.

She was a descendant of the Seckinger Clan of Salzburgers and a lifelong resident of Savannah. Born October 17, 1925 as the youngest child to Richard "Bummy" & Emma Beulah Dotson in Savannah, she graduated from Savannah High School & later followed the love of her life, Rufus Lester Gruver, Jr. to Washington, DC where they were married on February 17, 1943. She lived in Phoenix, AZ, Pittsburgh, PA, & Waycross and finally Macon Georgia where she was widowed and returned to her hometown. She worked for C&S Bank for many years and retired from the accounting department with Belk's of Savannah. Margie was a President of the Savannah Jaycettes and a longtime member of St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church where she served on the altar guild and was a member of the St. Martha's Guild. She always knew how to have a good time whether it was dancing the night away or being surrounded by friends or family. While in Waycross, she was a member of both the Dixie Dancers and Swamp Stompers Square Dance Groups. Her love for needlepoint and ceramics gave us many creations that were in her house or given to friends and family. Gardening was another love and you would sometimes find her out in her yard on a hot day planting and trying to get rid of the weeds to make her lawn and garden perfect. When not finding her playing cards, especially canasta, with her weekly card group, she was an avid reader and traveler having been a host with Jim Lanier Tours, traveling to many states and countries. You could also catch her filling out crossword puzzles, often depending on her dictionary or calling on family for help with a word. She will be remembered most for her love of butterflies as she always carried one on her shoulder.

She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Emma, sisters Dorothy and Muriel, and husband Lester and is survived by her son, Donald Louis Gruver, Sr. & wife Kathy of Savannah, daughter Patricia "Patty" of Savannah, son Richard "Ricky" Charles Christian Gruver & wife Kathy of Roswell, GA, niece Kathy Pinner of Charleston, SC as well as 6 Grandchildren, D. Louis Gruver, Jr. of Atlanta, William Gruver of Savannah, and Brendan, Christian, Connor and Lucas Gruver all of Roswell, GA.

Graveside funeral will be held at Greenwich Cemetery on Saturday, June 30th at 2pm with a celebration of life reception to be held following the service at St. Michaels & All Angels Episcopal Church at 3101 Waters Avenue corner of Washington & Waters Ave.

In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to the Altar Guild at St. Michaels & All Angels Episcopal Church in memory of Margie.
