Celebrating the life of
Ouida-Anne Gage Bayfield
January 29, 1939 - June 15, 2012
Ouida-Anne Gage Bayfield
Ouida-Anne Gage Bayfield 73 died Friday, June 15th at her home in Savannah. At the time of her death she was sitting in the sun on the back deck of her house. She was drinking iced tea, reading a magazine and enjoying her flowers. Her Irish Setter, Trula, was, as usual, by her side.
Ouida was born in 1939 in Melrose, MA but grew up in the Haverhill area. She loved ballet but at the age of 18 she left Bradford College to join the Water Follies. She swam at the Brussels World's Fair and all over North America. She was also a stewardess for Northeast Airlines, a travel agent and a real-estate agent. In addition, she volunteered her time with organizations from the Seaman's Society in Hong Kong to Oatland Island Wildlife Center in Savannah, among many others.
She met her husband, Bill, in Washington, DC in the summer of 1966 and they were married that December. They had 46 exciting, happy and loving years together. They lived and travelled around the world but Ouida loved her time in Hong Kong and in the Cayman Islands most of all.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Heidi Chekouras and her husband Tom in Stuttgart, Germany, Heather Weidle and her husband Russ in Jacksonville, Florida and four wonderful grandchildren, Lily, Michael, Mathew and Brooks. She was an extraordinary mother and grandmother and a loving and devoted wife. She cherished her family. They were her life. It is impossible to express in words how much she will be missed.
A memorial Service will be held at the Marshwood Club at The Landings on Skidaway Island at 4:30pm on Thursday, June 21st.
The family suggests that remembrances may be sent to the Irish Setter Club of America or an Irish Setter Rescue Organization.

We certainly miss one of the kindest and classiest ladies we were pleased to know in Hong Kong or anywhere. We loved going to the Bayfields for cocktails and dinner-your amah even had spring rolls as good as our Ad's!When we speak of HK and our friends we always have the Bayfields at the top. Your family is a real gem-you, Bill, will have to give Ouida and Heidie and Heather the MVP award for moulding it-maybe we'll give you a smidgen of credit out of charity. Best wishes and concentrate on the memories of a gem of a gal, our Ouida! With love, Ed and Julie.

I grew up in Haverhill, MA. My family was friends with the Gages. I was Billie's age and knew her better. It saddens me to learn of Ouida's death as she is the last of the Gage's I knew in Haverhill. I am pleased though to see that she lived a full and happy life. Bob Ellis
