Celebrating the life of

Mary Claire Ronan

February 26, 1925 - July 14, 2012

Mary Claire Ronan

Mary Claire Ronan
SAVANNAH – Miss Mary C. Ronan, born February 26, 1925 in Savannah, died on July 14, 2012 after a brief stay in a local hospital. Miss Ronan was the daughter of John T. Ronan, Sr. and Mary O'Connell Ronan, and devoted sister to John Thomas Ronan, Jr., Paul Michael Ronan, Sr., and Walter Joseph Ronan, all of whom predeceased her.
Mary graduated from St. Vincent's Academy and began her 30+ year career in federal civil service at Hunter Army Airfield during World War II. She enjoyed the variety of people she met while working in the travel voucher section of the base, and maintained strong friendships with her co-workers. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
After retiring, Mary enrolled in college classes at Armstrong Atlantic State University. With her natural intelligence and talkative nature, Mary fit right in with the younger students, earning their friendship and respect, while demonstrating that age is really no impediment to learning. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree by taking one class a semester, for ten years. Perseverance and a strong independent nature were Mary's life-long attributes.
She attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church faithfully all her life, and was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Council of Catholic Women.
Mary is survived by her sisters-in-law, Hazel W. Ronan and Edna Teddy Ronan; her nephews, Paul M. Ronan, Jr. and Robert F. Ronan; her nieces, Janice Hunter, Patricia Hibner, Barbara Ronan, Theresa Lundsgaard, and Marie Ramirez. She will be greatly missed by her good friends of 68 years, Mrs. Edith Lanier. The family would like to thank all Mary's friends for their loving support during this difficult time, and give our utmost appreciation to Hospice Savannah for their care and dedication.
Visitation will be held at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel on Tuesday from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Burial will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest next to her parents and brothers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

GUEST BOOK

I just found out about the death of my dear friend Mary. We worked at Hunter AAF for the Staff Judge Advocate Office. I had sent Mary a invitation to my retirement party on June 28, 2012 and had been trying to get in touch with her. Mary and I always met for my birthday in September and her birthday in February at Johnny Harris BBQ. She was true southern lady and a mentor to me for many years. She loved her family and many nieces and nephews. She would bring pictures and keep me up to date on their many accomplishments. I was on vacation at St Simons at the time of death and surely would have attended services for someone I truly admired. I know she will be missed by many friends and family. She was such a joy to be around and her sense of humor still makes me smile.

Mary worked with my mother, Christine Tullis Outland for many years at HAAF. They even lived across the street from each other. Mary was a wonderful person and I was so sorry to hear of her passing. My own mother passed just two days before Mary, so perhaps the are together again in God's grace. May God comfort your family in this difficult time.
