SAVANNAH – Elfrieda Thorpe Roby, 97, died Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Hospice House. She has resided for the last year with her son, Cleve, under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Born October 29, 1914 in Savannah to Warren Cubbedge and Wilhelmina Werner Thorpe, she was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a charter member of the former Faith Lutheran Church. She attended Draughon's Business School and was the secretary at the First Girl Scout Headquarters in Savannah for many years. Mrs. Roby retired in 1978 as an Administrative Assistant from the Internal Revenue Service.
Surviving are her son, H. Cleve Roby and his wife Mickie of Richmond Hill; and grandchildren, Meredith Vaughan Marc Fritz and their child Trier Fritz, Rene' Roby Shaw Tracy and their children, Zach, Lexi, and Lizzie, Courtney Roby Todaro Zach and their children, Morgan and Harrison, Stacey Roby Wells Ben and their child Charlie, and Ashley Vaughan Ferguson Josh and their child Elin.
Mrs. Roby was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Cleveland Roby, her daughter, Diane Roby Vaughan, her grandson, Stephen Vaughan, and her siblings, Carl Thorpe, Edwin Thorpe, Warren Thorpe, Jr., George Thorpe, Herbert Thorpe, Lois Hext, Donald Thorpe, and Eula MacLeod.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Peter J. Hartmann officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Interment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
