Marvin Milton Amick

Savannah- Marvin M. Amick, Major, US Army Retired "Grandpa", devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather, passed on Monday, October 8, 2012.
Mr. Amick is survived by Lucie, his wife of nearly 54 years, two children, Steve and Greg; he also leaves behind five grandchildren, Tess, Amber, Scott, Shannon and Mark, and two daughters-in-law, Sophie and Anne.
Born in Spencer, Iowa on January 29, 1938, Marvin joined the Army at the age of 17 where he spent 23 years proudly serving his country while earning multiple decorations including two Bronze Stars, the Army Commendation Medal 1st Oak Cluster and two Air Medals. His tours of duty included assignments in France, Germany, Vietnam, Korea, Belgium NATO and many assignments throughout the United States. Following his retirement from the military as a Major, he had a 15 year career with El Paso Natural Gas.
"Grandpa" was an avid fisherman, card player and billiards player. He loved to travel and always enjoyed a good meal. But, more than anything, he was a family man, wanting to spend whatever time he could with his family.
At his request, a private ceremony was held on October 10, 2012.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Amick's name to the VA Hospital, 109 Bee St., Charleston, SC 29401.

Amick family, I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Marv on an Elba Island project. The thing I remember most about Marv, he was passionate about spending time with his family and he shared with me stories of some of those times spent together.

Mrs. Amick, I'm Tenella and Alfred's son, Alfred Jr. Mother and I are so sorry about Mr. Amicks passing. Both of you have been very good neighbors. Mr. Amick was always very helpful when dad needed some help at their house, and dad really enjoyed fishing with Mr. Amick. Hope you will keep in touch with Tenella.
