Walter Richard Gerzel died October 17th 2012 at the age of 95. He resided at Magnolia Manor Retirement Community, Richmond Hill, GA.
Walter was born March 13th, 1917 in Youngstown Ohio. He spent most of his retirement years in Florida with his wife Freda before moving to Savannah, GA to be near his daughter Sandy.
He was a graduate of South High School in Youngstown, Ohio. Before his retirement Walter was assistant Postmaster in Youngstown, Ohio. He also served in World War II. He was very active with his wife in his church, Christ United Presbyterian in his hometown. Walter was at the time of his passing a member Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church.
Walter and Freda celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary earlier this year. They raised a great family in Ohio and enjoyed their retirement first in Florida and later in Savannah Georgia. They will both be greatly missed.
Surviving him is his daughter and son in law Sandy and Lars Ljungdahl of Savannah, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His wife Freda, son Bob and daughter Janyce preceded him in death.
The family suggests that any remembrances be made in her memory to Skidaway Islands Presbyterian Church, 50 Diamond Causeway. Savannah GA 31411.
Memorial service for both of them will be held in Youngstown Ohio later in November, place and date to be announced at a later date.
