Alice Smith Hanton, 79, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Hospice Savannah, Inc. surrounded by her family. She was born in Savannah, daughter of the late Joseph Aubrey and Ada Evans Smith. Mrs. Hanton was employed as a switchboard operator for Southern Bell and St. Joseph's Hospital for many years. She was a former member of Burkhalter Baptist Church. Her husband, Blair Jefferson Hanton preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, Joseph L. "Spike" Hanton Christine of Rincon; Blair D. Hanton Dawn of Pooler; Caroline McGlamery Kirk of Statesboro; Douglas C. Hanton Deborah of Savannah; brother, J.D. Smith Diane of Richmond Hill; fourteen grandchildren, one great great grandchild, one niece and one nephew.
Visitation: 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2012 in the Hodgson Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors conducted by Reverend Jim Correll.
Burial: Bonaventure Cemetery.
