May 06, 1923 - November 13, 2012

Virginia Lee Ceryanec

Virginia Lee Jeanie Ceryanec

Mrs. Jeanie Ceryanec died Tuesday at Hospice Savannah surrounded by her family. Born in Jesup, GA in 1923, Jeanie's family moved to Savannah when she was eight. She was a graduate of Savannah High School.

During WWII, Jeanie met her future husband, Victor Joseph Vic Ceryanec, when he was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield. Three days after their wedding, Vic was sent overseas to New Guinea for three years. During that time, both kept diaries and saved every letter from each other, leaving a beautiful love story on paper for their family.

After the war, they decided to stay in the service and lived in New York, Virginia, Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts, England, South Carolina, and Savannah. Jeanie enjoyed life as a military wife entertaining friends, and she was a member of many women's groups and bridge clubs at the various bases. Retiring back to Savannah, they loved living downtown and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vic, parents Fitzhugh Lee and Helen Williams Oliver, and brothers-in-law Harold and Joseph Ceryanec.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Anckner and husband Joe, her precious grandson, Michael Anckner and his wife, Caitlin, her cousin, Herman Lewis and wife Miriam of Jacksonville, her sisters-in-law, Bobbi Ceryanec of Bettendorf, Iowa, Anne Ceryanec and Lorraine Anzeljc, of Chicago and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Oaks at The Marshes of Skidaway Island, and especially Ms. Chiquita Green, who is a living angel and took such good care of Jeanie over the past two years. Also, Dr. Masroor, her very caring doctor over the last 30 years.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, November 17 at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park at noon. Family will receive friends at the gravesite from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Remembrances: Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church 429 Abercorn St Savannah, GA 31401 or Hospice Savannah PO Box 13190 Savannah, GA 31416.
