Celebrating the life of

J. Saxton Daniel Jr.

September 05, 1920 - November 14, 2012

J. Saxton Daniel Jr.

J. Saxton Daniel Jr., 92, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012. He was born in Claxton, Georgia, son of J. Saxton Daniel Sr. and Elizabeth Brinson Daniel. While attending the University of Georgia, Sax was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps serving in the meteorologist squadron during the Battle of the Bulge. After the military, Sax returned to the University of Georgia earning a bachelors degree in criminal justice. He joined the United States Probation System, retiring as Chief Probation Officer with thirty years of service. He was one of the longest serving members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry and other committees. He was also a member of the LaVida County Club, Bacon Park Golf Course and the Savannah Yacht Club. Sax loved to tell stories of the days when he went to the courthouse with his father, Judge Daniel, his time in the military to include meeting the President of the United States, and above all when you met Sax, you knew he was the life of the party and everyone was greeted with "Hello My Friend". He was a true University of Georgia fan that never missed a game. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Theresa Smith Daniel and son, Mark Smith Daniel.

Surviving are his wife of thirty one years, Reba Bowen Daniel of Savannah; brother, Emory Brinson Daniel and his wife, Doris of Hickory, NC; step-son, Randy Jacobson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and step-grandson, Matthew Jacobson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and two special cousins.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 19, 2012 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in the Church Garden. A reception will follow in the Parish House.

Remembrances: St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2 St. Thomas Ave., Savannah, GA 31406.

I am sorry for your loss. I worked at LaVida Country Club and I remember Sax, very well. He will be greatly missed. I will pray for healing for your family at this difficult time.

Sax was our neighbor when I was growing up in Wymberley. Sax and my dad would stand around in the yard and talk and laugh about everything. Sax especially liked to joke about my dog, who was the neighborhood Romeo. Sax was a good man; may he rest in peace. nancy

- Nancy Cunningham, , GA

Reba, we are so sorry to hear of Sax's death. Although we knew him for only a short time, he brightened our days with his humor! A week doesn't go by without one of us sharing a funny moment we remember with Sax. You were both so kind to us from the moment we moved next door. Sending you hugs from Ohio, and hope to see you soon. Love, Sally, Rich, and Steve

- Sally Bennett, Cambridge, OH

Dear Reba, Sax was a wonderful person and we were blessed to have known him! I can't imagine a friendlier neighbor. Not a visit went by without him telling us how lucky he was to have a good wife and peanut butter! You're in our prayers and if there is anything we can do to help you during this time, please let us know.

Uncle Sax always made me feel cared for whenever I saw him or spoke with him. The fly-fishing stories and stories of Sax and Dad growing up and Reba fixing Sax all the ice cream flavors Sax enjoyed ...

- Cindy, Doris & Dick Daniel, Hickory, NC

Dear Reba and Family, How sad we are today that we have lost Sax but how grateful we are to have been a part of his life. We loved being with both of you at family events and visiting at your beautiful home in Savannah. Saxie was a true southern gentlemen who cherished his beloved Reba, his sons, and the Georgia Bulldawgs. He was the life of the party and few could equal his storytelling. Despite enduring many painful losses he could still make others laugh and he could laugh at himself. A truly great man is gone but he will live on in the great memories we have of him. Much love, Stacy, Michelle, and Tyler
