Richard "Dick" Johnson, 80, died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at his home in Savannah, GA.
Mr. Johnson was born in Smiths Creek, MI on November 2, 1932, the son of the late Obed Roswell Johnson and Maude Wilson Johnson. He earned his undergraduate degree in economics from Michigan State University and his MBA from the University of Michigan. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Johnson worked for many years with General Motors Overseas Group and retired as the President of General Motors - Japan. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and a member of Smiths Creek Masonic Lodge No. 491. Outside of work and civic involvement, he was an avid tennis player.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Peabody Johnson; daughter, Catherine West Johnson M. Lisa McHam, MD of Boston, MA; son, Park Roswell Johnson Laura Munitz Johnson of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Lincoln Johnson McHam, Camille Bess Johnson, Abigail Roswell Johnson, and Isabel Maren Johnson and brother, Max Dorian Johnson Margaret Kubisch Johnson of Petoskey, MI.
The family will be receiving friends Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson residence, 2 Oak Glade Court, Savannah, GA 31411. A graveside service will take place in Rush, NY at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Michigan Cancer Society, P.O. Box 720295, Oklahoma City, OK 73172-0295.
Dick was such a wonderful and giving person. I will always remember his hospitality and especially his laugh. Never a dull moment! I feel privileged to have known him.
