Lanier  Cain

Lanier Cain, 83, passed away December 5, 2012 at Tara at Thunderbolt Nursing Home in Savannah, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 in the chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home in Blakely, Georgia. Dr. Darryl Craft of Hattiesburg, Miss. officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 7-8 PM and on Saturday from 12-1.

Mr. Cain was born December 24, 1928 in Hall County, Georgia to the late Jeff Cain and Lila Collins Cain. He was a graduate of Gainesville High School and received his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Georgia. He was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army and served as a 2nd Lt. during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a retail manager for the J.C.Penney Co. for many years before retiring.

He was a longtime resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and lay leader at Brainerd Baptist Church, as well as participating with his time, talents, and treasures in the community. At his death, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Winder, Georgia. He remained active in his church and in his community until the time of his illness.

Mr. Cain was preceded in death by an infant son, Lanier Cain, Jr.; 3 brothers, L.K. Cain, Jeff Cain, and Leroy Cain, and 2 sisters, Maurine McNeal and Montine Fields.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Chandler Cain; a son, Hamilton Ellen Goldstein Cain, Brooklyn, New York and a daughter, Char-La Calvin Fowler, Savannah, Georgia, five grandsons, Owen, Nathaniel & Peter Cain, and Richard & Henry Fowler and 2 granddaugters, Chandler & Collins Fowler; and two brothers, Lyndol Trudy Cain of Watkinsville, Georgia and Lamar Laurenette of Ware Shoals, South Carolina.
