SAVANNAH – Helen Brown Cook, 93, passed away on December 26, 2012, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Born on January 24, 1919 in Lafayette, Indiana, she was predeceased by her parents, Charles Andrew Brown and Helen Frances Brown, her husband, Dr. Ellison Richards Cook, III, and her sister, Jeanne Brown Loftin.
Mrs. Brown earned a Masters degree in Social Work from Tulane University in 1943.
It was while working at New Orleans' Charity Hospital that she met her husband, Dr. Ellison Dick Cook, who was an intern there. They were married in New Orleans, and after he returned from the war, they moved to Savannah, Georgia with their three children.
She was a loving housewife, raising twelve children, and was forced to go back to work when her husband died in a tragic automobile accident in 1961.
She was Director of Social Services at Candler/St. Joseph's Hospital for a number of years, and became a Vice-President of the hospital before she retired in 1984.
She will always be remembered for her loving devotion to her twelve children, and her kindness to all who knew her.
She leaves behind her twelve children, Mary Frances Engle Tom, Ellis Peniston Cook Christy, Jeanne Overacre Gary, Nora Catherine Kresch Charles, Ellison R. Dickie Cook IV Eva, Charles Brown Cook, Mildred Waters, Helen McLaughlin John, Edmund Francis Cook Mary, Paul Peniston Cook Fiona, William Noel Cook Ellen Mary, and Sarah Louise Poff; many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, December 29, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, Savannah, Georgia.
Interment will be private on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Bonaventure Cemetery.

I was so sorry to hear of this loss; but hope Helen's family celebrated her life and the legacy she left behind not the least of which is a pretty amazing and connected family!. I will always remember Helen and truly was honored to be a part of some of her personal celebrations. Loss is always sad; but I hope family finds comfort in each other and her life!
