John "Jerry" Raymond Swails

John Jerry Raymond Swails passed away peacefully on February 1, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born at Telfair Hospital in Savannah, Georgia on January 26, 1941, to Floyd and Maude Swails. Jerry graduated high school in Heidelberg, Germany and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. His career included managerial positions at Flintkote Corporation and Grumman Aerospace in Savannah, Georgia and Lockheed in Marietta, Georgia. He retired from Lockheed in 1997. Jerry was an avid reader and student of history anything related to the Civil War and enjoyed sports, especially the Atlanta Braves and his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide.
Jerry is survived by Charlotte, his devoted wife of 44 years; sons Jimmy Swails and Michele of Savannah, Georgia, Dennis Woods and Leigh of Fort Lewis, Washington, Andy Woods and Sheila of Warner Robbins, Georgia, John Swails and Meghan of Canal Winchester, Ohio, and daughters Kristine Bryan of New Haven, Connecticut, Laura Haller and John of Marietta, Georgia and 8 grandchildren Kayla, Mary, Andrew, Charlotte, Rachel, Tyler, Grant, and Jennsen. He was predeceased by his brother, Tommy Swails.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013, 11:00 AM at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel www.foxandweeks.com. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
