William Stanley Hedgcorth
TYBEE ISLAND, GA - William Stanley Hedgcorth Stan, 66, passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 15, 2013 at his residence.
He was born in Bonne Terre, MO on February 9, 1947. Stan was in Alaska when he was honorably discharged from the Coast Guard and stayed there for 16 years. While in Alaska he was a NewYork Life Insurance representative. While in Juneau, he was active in the Jaycees, and played country music with the Kountry Knights. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
After leaving Alaska, Stan lived in Memphis, TN for several years before retiring to Tybee Island, GA in 1997. He was very active in the Tybee community. He was the Service Officer for the American Legion Post 154, served on several committees of Tybee Fest, and was voted "Volunteer of the Year" for his work with the Tybee Arts Association, just to name a few.
Stan is survived by his mother, Cora Hedgcorth, of Bismarck, MO and his loving wife of 21 years, Brucie Westerman. He is also survived by two daughters, Kelly Hedgcorth, of Memphis, TN and Lindsay Holley Josh of Cordova, TN; step-daughters, Blake Landfried of Waco, TX and Anna Rovolis Tash of Savannah, GA; four grandchildren, Hudson and Hadley Holley and Connor and Shelby Rovolis; his sister, Sondra Gopenner of Palm Springs, CA; nieces, Nannet Bunch of Arizona and Laura Price of Murphreesboro, TN; and a nephew, Fred Bunch, of Murphreesboro, TN. He was preceded in death by his father William Paul Hedgcorth.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February19, 2013, at the Chapel by the Sea, Butler Avenue at 9th St., Tybee Island, GA. The service will be officiated by Pastor David Laughner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion, Post 154, Tybee Island, GA 31328.
