SAVANNAH – Mrs. Janette Betty Gatens, 88, passed away March 14, 2013, at Spanish Oaks Retreat and Hospice. She was preceded in death by Maurice Gatens, her husband of 60 years.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Gatens husband Bill Durrence of Savannah, her son Dr. Robert Gatens, Fairfax, VA, and her granddaughter Bailey Gatens, Raleigh, NC.
"Betty" and her husband were avid golfers and devout Catholics. She taught her children to play golf at an early age with the important lessons as in life of: have fun, play by the rules, pick up the ball when you are holding others up, and, when you are old enough, have a pitcher of Bloody Mary's handy.
Visitation: 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM and Rosary 6:30 – 7:00 PM, Friday, March 22nd, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Funeral: Graveside at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 23rd, at Catholic Cemetery.
