Kenneth E. Roberts

Kenneth E. Roberts, 64, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Memorial University Medical Center. He was born in Savannah, son of the late Harold Eugene and Eva Hakkola Roberts. He graduated from Jenkins High School and Armstrong State College with a bachelor's degree in history. As a young man, he worked for the Seaboard Coastline Railroad and then spent his entire career dedicated to the sales and marketing field with the Campbell Soup Company, Coburg Dairies and Crossmark. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served as usher and on church council as youth committee chairman. Mr. Roberts was an Eagle Scout, former member of the Optimist Club, Savannah Jaycees and served as Booster Club President at Jenkins High School. He also was a member of the Irish Jasper Greens of the Georgia Army National Guard for six years.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Julie Connor Roberts of Savannah; son, Matthew Reed Roberts and his wife, Holly of Newtown Square, PA; daughter, Katherine Roberts Sau and her husband, Pratik of Atlanta, GA; brother, Charles Melvin Roberts and his wife, Marie of Madison, GA; sister, Christine Roberts Hokkanen and her husband, Bob of Fayetteville, GA; and his special treats, grandchildren, Julianna Mersereau Roberts, Matthew Reed Roberts, Jr., and Timothy Porter Roberts; and also special aunts and uncle, Faye Keene Roberts, Lillian Hunt Roberts, Donald and Marie Hakkola; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church conducted by the Reverend Peter J. Hartmann. A tea will follow in Hoffner Hall immediately following. The burial will be private.

I meet Ken last year at our Sales Meeting. He was so concerned with his wife. She was his whole life. I had some pink Dragon Flies that my husband had made and sent for cancer survivors and their families to support all on our dedicated team who had family members fighting cancer. Ken had tears in his eyes. He was so kind and so friendly. Everyone loved Ken and respected him so much as a co-worker and as a friend. God Bless his family who will sadly miss him.
