Martha

Martha "Dean" Brannen Beacham, 81, died peacefully at her home in Savannah, Georgia on April 4, 2013, with her children at her side.

Dean was a wonderful Christian woman and lived a life that reflected her faith. She was active at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church until her illness prevented her from attending on a regular basis.

Dean was born on October 19, 1931 in Statesboro, Georgia. She graduated from Statesboro High School in 1947 and attended the Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville where she received a business certificate in 1949. She then moved to Savannah and was employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers in the Contracting Office. She was the Small and Disadvantaged Business Specialist for this agency and retired in 1989 with more than 30 years of government service.

After retirement, Dean enjoyed many years of traveling, both abroad and in the United States. Another passion of hers was playing bridge with family and friends. She remained a member of her bridge club until just a few months before her death. Dean was always excited about experiencing new adventures and enjoyed life to its fullest. She enjoyed giving her time to help others and was a member of several organizations including the Altrusa Club and the Savannah Woman's Club. She also enjoyed participating in the Meals on Wheels Program.

Dean was deeply loved and admired by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orren Lester Brannen and Rubye Parrish Brannen and her late husband, Robert Hawkins Beacham. She is survived by her children and son-in-law, Robert D. Beacham, Ellen Collum Steve, and Richard H. Beacham. She also leaves behind her siblings, Carolyn Bischel and Joy Cobb of Cordele Georgia, Orren Brannen and wife Barbara of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, along with many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church 1008 Henry St at Waters Avenue on Monday, April 8 at 1 PM. Burial will be private.

The family requests remembrances be sent to the Alzheimer's Association and Hospice of Savannah.
