Lillian Dowling Odom
Lillian Dowling Odom, 89, died April 9, 2013 at Hospice Savannah.
She was born March 26, 1924 in Savannah, Georgia and was a devout Parishioner of St. James Catholic Church. She was educated in
Savannah parochial schools and graduated from Savannah High School in 1942. She was employed at Union Camp Paper Corporation as Executive Secretary to Mr. Francis Kelly and Mr. Charlie Daughtry. Her duties also included management of salaried employee personnel records and documentation of agreements between Union Camp Corporation and the labor unions. In addition, she assisted the top company executives when they visited the Savannah plant. It was there that she met the love of her life, James Edwin Odom, and they were married on May 18, 1957. She was his much-loved, beautiful, always smiling and, as he also says, "indescribable" wife of 56 years.
She was predeceased by her parents, William Patrick Dowling and Marie
Stegin Dowling; her brothers, Fr. William Patrick Dowling, Jr. and Joseph Stegin Dowling; one sister, Mary Dowling Rossiter; and her precious six year old son, Nelson Earl Odom.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Odom; two daughters,
Karen Odom and Christine Odom Clemens Konrad; her sister, Ann
Dowling Farr Joseph; two grandchildren, Henry Konrad Clemens, V and Theresa Marie Clemens, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank The Marshes of Skidaway Island family and Johnny Harris Restaurant employees for their care and support.
A Vigil Service will be at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 11th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 12th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial following at the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitfield Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406 or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1707 Bull Street, Savannah, GA 31401.
