SAVANNAH – Surrounded by her loving family, Mrs. Nell Pinckney Carlson, age 97, passed away at her home on May 1, 2013.
She was born April 16, 1916 in Savannah, GA to the late Thomas Pinckney and Jessie Martin Pinckney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clarence Oscar Carlson, four brothers, and one sister. She is survived by her children, June Carlson McRoy Bill, Betty Carlson Jeffords Leon, Joyce Carlson, and Linda Carlson Mitchell; sister, Isabelle Pinckney Mahaney; eight grandchildren, Beverly Butler Tom, Patsy Johnston Jerry, Barry McRoy, Mark McRoy Jane, Libby Wilbanks Joe, Keith McRoy, Renee Sweatman Jeff, and Brian Mitchell Mary; seven great-grandchildren, Will Rice, Ben Butler Alison, Polly Grauso Chris, Carlson McRoy, Ally Dawson, Charley Mitchell, and Tanner Mitchell; and one great-great-grandchild, J.T. Grauso. She quietly showed us that family is always held closest to the heart.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Savannah, Dr. Marianne Fleming, and Crystal of Handle With Loving Care for their loving care and attention to our mother.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2013 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Services to honor her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church.
Interment will take place at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park, 1600 Wheaton Street, Savannah, GA 31404.
Pallbearers will be Barry McRoy, Mark McRoy, Keith McRoy, Brian Mitchell, Will Rice, and Ben Butler.
Remembrances may be made to Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church, 450 N. Cromwell Road, Savannah, GA 31410 or Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
