Celebrating the life of

Edna Fitzpatrick

February 05, 1925 - May 05, 2013

Edna Fitzpatrick

Savannah-Edna Fitzpatrick, 88, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2013, in Savannah.

She was born in Savannah, Georgia, on February 5, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Charles Harvey Ferrelle and Edna Middleton Ferrelle, both of Savannah.

Edna was a graduate of Savannah High School and attended the University of Arizona. Although she spent most of her life in Savannah, Edna was a veteran traveler and made homes in many places during her husband's distinguished career as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. She, their two young daughters, their dog, and two cats accompanied her husband, Jack, to his assignment in Japan after the Korean War, and they spent several years there. Edna always spoke fondly about having had the opportunity to be a part of other cultures and make so many friends in different parts of the world. Edna, Jack, and their daughters returned from overseas to Albany, Georgia, and eventually returned to Savannah.

After raising her children, Edna pursued a very successful real estate career in the Savannah area until her retirement. She was licensed into the real estate establishment in 1976, at which time she joined Esther Wynne Realty, a preeminent real estate company specializing in residential properties of outstanding merit and value.

She was recognized for her notable achievement in the prestigious Million Dollar Club annually. When Esther Wynne Realty closed, Edna joined David Byck Realty where she participated until her retirement in 2001. She was well respected as an active member of the Savannah Board of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. Edna was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Garden Club of Savannah, the Savannah Yacht Club, and a life-long member of St. John's Episcopal Church.

Edna was a welcoming, vivacious, spirited, and fun-loving lady who had friends of all ages from all walks of life. Her home was always open to everyone who came. Edna loved gatherings with family and friends, bridge, gardening, college football, and spending time with her grandchildren. Edna was also an avid animal lover. For most of her life, she rescued countless stray and abandoned cats and dogs and provided a safe and loving home for them.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Major John Francis Fitzpatrick Jack. She is survived by her daughters, Edna Fitzpatrick Fox Cissy, and Mary Fitzpatrick Hagan and her husband Walter Kay Hagan, Jr.; granddaughters Mary Middleton Hagan Moore Middi and her husband Jon, and Jane Delph Hagan; grandson Walter Kay Hagan, III, and his wife Allison; two great-grandchildren John Middleton Moore and James Parker Moore; first cousin Harry Parker and his wife Murette; and five beloved nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 6, 2013, at Fox and Weeks on Hodgson Memorial Drive from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at St. John's Episcopal Church at 11:00 am.

Burial will be at Bonaventure Cemetery in the Greenwich section.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, the American Cancer Society, Save-A-Life, Inc., and Coastal Pet Rescue.
