Dr. Gregory Joseph Federowicz of Savannah, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on May 5, 2013 at the age of 46 years. The seventh of nine children, Greg was born in Binghamton, New York, on September 26, 1966, to Dr. Thomas E. and Jeanne Therese Federowicz. A member of the high school soccer championship team, he graduated from Vestal High School in 1984 and received a degree in Business and Economics from Lehigh University in 1988, and subsequently completed Post-Baccalaureate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He then attended medical school at SUNY Syracuse, graduating Magna Cum Laude and as member in the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society in 1995. Following a radiology residency at the Medical College of Virginia, he practiced as an attending at the Memorial Health Center in Savannah, Georgia. Medical school sweethearts, Greg married Dr. Maria Krichever in 1999, and they have two sons: Michael, 9 years old, and Thomas, 6 years old. Of Greg's many accomplishments in life, none gave him greater joy than his family. With his family along-side, Greg pursued many interests including painting, drumming for a local band as well as on many family recordings, and exquisite culinary adventures. Greg will always be remembered as a humorous, up-beat, easy-going, hospitable and generous husband, son, brother, and friend. His children were his world and he theirs. He will be in our hearts forever.
He is survived by his wife, Maria, and his sons, Michael and Thomas; his parents, Dr. Thomas E. and Jeanne, and his in-laws, Mark Krichever and Inessa Krichever; his siblings: Tom and Jane Federowicz and their children Kevin and Sean; Dr. Daniel and Caroline Federowicz, and their children Christina, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Alexandra; Dr. Stephen and Dr. Mary DeGuardi-Federowicz and their children Catherine, Therese, Stephen, and Maria; John Ed Bon Federowicz; Mary Federowicz and her children, Allie, Jeffery and Joseph; Barbara Jean and Michael Houck, and their children Cassidy, Stephan, Henry and Arden; Janine Federowicz and her children, Gabrielle and Annalisa; and Ann Marie Federowicz.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, May 8, 2013, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 6:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Greg was a great person and he and I had a lot of good times and laughs together as residents at MCV. He was always quick to smile and had a great sense of humor. I certainly cannot think of a better person to have served as co-chief resident with. Over the years I occasionally thought about the times we had together and it would make me smile. I am very sorry for your loss and will keep your family in our prayers.
- Ben Skinner, , VA
The entire Radiology Division has heavy hearts, we all miss seeing Dr Fed each day in the hallway, in the reading room. He was very loved by all and impacted so many lives. The funeral service was incredibly beautiful and touching. The words spoken allowed those of us who know him professionally to peer through a personal window into his life. For that I am grateful. Prayers are with you all- with sincere gratitude for allowing us to participate in sharing in the celebration of his wonderful life here on earth. God bless

My deepest condolences in your time of loss. As one of Fed's former residents, I can speak for all of us in saying that we were very lucky to know him. He was a brilliant, caring, and dedicated physician and teacher. Even from seeing the small slice of Fed's life we were privileged to share, it was easy to tell that he loved it. He always had smile on his face, whether tapping out a drum solo at the reading station, or out and about in Savannah. Invariably, and tellingly, so did everyone else around him. He will be missed by many.
- Darshan Acharya, Arlington, VA

Dear Federowicz Family, I didn't often get to see Greg since high school, but whenever I did I was struck by the same qualities he has had since we were kids--a gentle charm, easy laughter, bright inquisitiveness, and a lovely modesty, even as his accomplishments grew. Please know he is remembered with admiration and joy by me and the whole Zinner clan.

Dear Greg Fed family, I am so sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of Fed--from seventh grade math to his staunch defense as our 'stopper' on the soccer team. But most of all, Fed and I spent hours each day in ninth grade 'betting' on baseball. We started picking which teams would win for a quarter, then who would hit a home run for a dime, then RBIs for a nickel, stolen bases, three hits, two hits, doubles, triples and anything else we could think of. This was long before the Internet and ESPN, so checking the box scores in the newspaper was the highlight of home room each morning. We had long calls at night making our picks and long scraps of paper documenting them. I don't think we ever actually exchanged any money. That wasn't the point. There was a lot of trash talking though and it sure was fun. Seems like yesterday. My deepest sympathies.
- John Fish, San Francisco, CA
Greg was the embodiment of a truly great physician, and great radiologist - enlightened, yet humble, persevering yet never overbearing, kind, a friend to his peers and all who worked with him - truly a doctor's doctor. We all should think it was my papa. Please take care of my dad, God, Please. Amen.

It is of some small relief to me to learn what a full and accomplished life Greg led. But, it is no surprise to me, as he was a talented, hard working and kind hearted teammate when we played Babe Ruth baseball together so long ago. I trust all of you will find support and hope in your large and wonderful family, as you endure this heartbreaking loss. Yours in grief, John Pakutka VCHS '82

Michael, sweetheart, you are right, and wise beyond your years. Your dad is in our hearts and we will NEVER forget him. We will miss him so much, just as you will, but your Daddy is in Heaven which is a really good place to be. So when you see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, when you look up in the sky and see the stars glittering in the sky, you know that while your Daddy is up in Heaven with God, he will ALWAYS be in your heart...he will always be a part of you. Michael, we love you and Thomas and your Mommy. And we miss your Daddy, too, but we will always have him in our hearts, just like you. Miriam
- Miriam, Savannah, GA
Greg was a consistently kind and funny guy. Never a nasty comment for anyone, always good natured and smiling. I can't believe this has happened at such a young age to such a great guy. I had not seen Greg for many years and did not know how successful he had become in his medical career. Wow, very impressive and all that much sadder to know of his premature death. I am very sad about this. Brother, you will be missed.
- Jonathan Lauer, Seattle, WA
Barbara Jean and the entire Federowicz Family: We know that no words can help ease the pain and loss that you are feeling right now. It's the little things, the small, everyday occurrences that you'll remember. The laughs, the stories, the smiles. And even though it seems like you can never recover from your loss, it is these very memories that will help push the pain away and bring back the smiles. You are in my every prayer and thought.

Sending my deepest sympathy to the Federowicz family. Greg was a great and long-time friend who will be very much missed. He leaves us far too soon. Our friendship began at African Road Junior High and continued to the present time. Greg & I were doubles partners on Vestal's tennis team. The fun times we had together in high school along with Mike Billiter & Mike Smith were some of the best years of my life. I will you my friend.
- Jim Monaghan, Summit, NJ
Greg was one of my dearest friends. We've known each other since high school and our friendship has endured these many years. I am so fortunate to have seen him go from the awkward teen like we all were to a well respected physician. He married a beautiful and wonderful woman who also became a cherished person for the Billeter family. I am stunned, saddened and have a hole in my heart that will be difficult to mend. The times we 'jammed' together, went to concerts together, enjoyed wine together, laughed about each other's children...I could go on, but each moment will be reflected upon and be treated as a gift. My heart felt condolence to Maria, Michael, Thomas, and the many 'Feds' who I've been lucky to know to varying degress. Greg, I love you buddy, and I'll miss you
