Samuel Robert Curry
Samuel Robert Curry, 83, died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Memorial University Medical Center. He was born in Hamlin, West Virginia, son of the late Clark and Martha Haines Curry. After graduating from high school in Hamlin, he attended Marshall University where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting. He then joined the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. He was on active duty for five years receiving an honorable discharge as a Lieutenant junior grade. Out of the military, he accepted a position in Holden, WV as an accountant with Island Creek Coal Co. He joined Corning Glass Works in Parkersburg, WV as an accountant and later was transferred to the home office in Corning, NY. After spending many years with Corning, he purchased his own company, Curry and Johnson Heating and Air Conditioning in Huntington, WV. He and his wife moved to Savannah in 1986 where he worked as an auditor with the Federal Credit Union, Temple Mickve Israel and most recently as controller for Morrison Chemical Co. Mr. Curry was a member of Wilmington Island United Methodist Church and a former member of the Kiwanis and Optimist Clubs. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clark Curry Jr. and John H. Curry.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Hertig Curry of Savannah; children, Samuel Robert Curry II of Savannah; Kimberly Furbish and her husband, Gary of Geneva, FL; Susan Brun and her husband, Stephen of Savannah; grandchildren, Graham Fleener, Sarah Stone, Ann Robinson, Zechariah Curry, Cheetara Curry, Jardus Curry, Jasper Brun, Kiffin Brun; seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Wilmington Island United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend James Sapp. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
