Robert "Bob" David Shapiro
Robert "Bob" David Shapiro, 76, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Hospice Savannah. He was born July 8, 1937 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Hyman and Frances Ginsborg Shapiro. He attended Temple and Penn State University, and Admiral Farragut Military Academy, where he excelled in basketball and baseball. Robert owned Doctor's Pet Center at the Oglethorpe Mall, and also worked for New England Life Insurance Co. as a Supervisor of Agents. He later worked for Sitel Corporation, and was currently employed by Home Depot. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran where he was involved in Navy Intelligence. He sponsored a Savannah City League Baseball team, known as Dr. Thompson's.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Allen Shapiro, and his uncle Norman Gainor.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Burns Shapiro, of Savannah, son, Michael Shapiro Renee, of Bluffton, SC, daughters, Donnal Trunck John, and Debbie Tindol, both of Hilton Head Island, SC, one granddaughter, Alaina Shapiro, and grandson, Austin Chittum, of Bluffton, and his sister, Elsie Shapiro Hossack, of Philadelphia, PA.
The family would like to thank his close friend, Tommy Madison, for his help and support during Bob's illness.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hodgson Chapel of Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah, The Lewis Cancer Center, or the Home Depot Homer Fund.
