James Marvin Dooley
October 10, 1937 - September 30, 2013
James Marvin Dooley, 75, died Monday, September 30, 2013 after battling a long illness surrounded by his wife of 54 years and their children.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, son of the late Rubin E. and Bertha Overton Dooley. He graduated from Commercial High School in 1955. He worked for American Can Company and later retired from Kaiser Agricultural Chemicals/PCS Nitrogen.
He loved to share his memories of the good ol' days with Coach Spellman and his beloved Cobra football team. He was forever known as Coach Dooley after years of coaching Little League Baseball and Football for the South Side Raiders, a Boy Scout Leader and a mentor to many young boys. Coach Dooley was a member of Cresthill Baptist Church, active member of the Cobra Club and had served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Diane Barrett and sister-in-law, Shelby Dooley.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Akins Dooley, daughters, Teri Dooley Malphrus of Okatie, SC; Tammi Robbie Hughes of Savannah, GA; son, Todd Lisa Dooley of Savannah; GA; brother, Robert E. Dooley of North Augusta, SC; sister, Dorothy Joe Oliver of Rincon, GA; nine grandchildren, Jonathan Amy Malphrus, Chad Malphrus, Tyler Malphrus, Alex Hughes, Dylan Hughes, Jody Cline, Laikin Dooley and Morgan Dooley; one great grandchild, Caleb Malphrus and many other family members.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2013 in the Hodgson Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors.
Burial: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
