RICHMOND HILL - Rose Dell Parker Sanders passed away peacefully at her home on October 31, 2013 at the age of 91. She was born on September 13, 1922 in Toombs County, Georgia. Rose lived the majority of her life in Savannah where she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. After graduating high school, she attended business school and was instrumental in the World War II efforts by welding in the shipyard and working for Western Union. Known to many as "Ma", she was an amazing cook, seamstress, and enjoyed fishing and crocheting. Rose devoted her life to her family's care.
Rose is preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Elias Sanders, Jr., her parents, Evan Payne Parker and Nancy Jones Parker, her daughter, Carolyn Faye Hohnerlein, and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Nicholas Elias Sanders, III and his wife Rose, her daughter, Patricia June Brewer and her husband Michael, and her son-in-law John Hohnerlein. She is also survived by her sisters Barbara Sexton and Theoloo Schmidt, and a brother, Jack Parker. She was a devoted grandmother to 4 granddaughters, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Rose will also be missed by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 4, 2013 in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
Remembrances to Hospice Savannah and Grace United Methodist Church in Savannah.
