Mark Gunther

SAVANNAH- Mark "Gunny" Gunther, 57, died Thursday, November 28th in Savannah, GA. He was born on December 13, 1955 and a life long resident of Savannah. He attended St. James Catholic School and graduated from Windsor Forest High School. Gunny was a member of the Catholic faith and was a conductor at CSX Railroad for over 35 years. He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus #631 and an honorary member of #5588, a member of the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, The Friendly Son's of St. Patrick, and La Vida Country Club. Gunny was an avid UGA fan and a member of The Georgia Bulldog Club. He was an easygoing and humorous man with a caring heart and a smile that lit up the room. Gunny was a loyal and true friend, anyone he loved always knew they would be cared for and protected.

He was preceded in death by father, John "Jack" Bernard Gunther III; brother, John "JB" Bernard Gunther IV; brother-in-law, Tom Tison; and best friend, Joseph Patrick Welsh, Sr.

He is survived by mother, Helen Murphy Gunther; sister, Catherine Ann Gunther Tison; niece, Hannah Elizabeth Tison; longtime friend, Nora Richardson; and extended family, Jan Gaudry Welsh, Casey Welsh, Catherine Welsh, Sarah Welsh and Joseph Welsh; and many close friends.

Visitation will be from 4:30 PM until 6:00 PM with the memorial service at 6:00 PM on Wednesday December 4th at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

I will always remember Gunny with a big smile always willing to help a friend. He made many trips down to Orlando with my dad Bennett for UGA bowl games, boat deleveries, and even drove the moving truck when I moved back to Savannah. He will be greatly missed in our house.
