Celebrating the life of
Thomas Wayne Tucker
April 19, 1943 - December 04, 2013
Thomas Wayne Tucker
Thomas Wayne Tucker was born on April 19, 1943, in Ocilla, Georgia, and died December 4, 2013, in Savannah. He was raised on the family farm in Irwin County, Georgia, and graduated from Irwin County High School in 1961, Valdosta State College in 1966, and the University of Florida in 1968 with a Masters Degree in Engineering. After graduation, he worked for the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement NCASI and a small environmental engineering firm before starting work for Union Camp Corporation in September 1972. He continued with Union Camp/International Paper until his retirement in 2001. He held a variety of positions during his Union Camp career in Savannah, Georgia, and Prattville, Alabama, including Technical Director, Pulp Mill Superintendent, and Power Superintendent.
He was a member of Wilmington Island United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee and as Stewardship Chairperson. He was a member of Open Circle Sunday School class and the Thursday morning Bible Study.
Tom remained active in his retirement. In addition to his church activities, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross Blood Drive, and participated in the International Paper Retiree Breakfasts. He was a hard worker who fearlessly tackled any home improvement project and always liked to keep busy. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Delores, vacationing with his children and grandchildren, and cheering on the Florida Gators. He was a man of great integrity and humor and always had a witty response in every situation.
He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Delores Bulger Tucker; two daughters, Pamela Lynn Tucker Mount Stephen of Florence, South Carolina, and Cathy Elizabeth Tucker Rice Andrew of Hoover, Alabama; four grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Mount, Stephen Tucker Mount, Tucker Michael Rice, and William Fletcher Rice; and a brother, William Henry Tucker of Plantation, Florida.
He is predeceased by his parents Albert Wright Tucker and Dorothy McDaniel Tucker.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 9, at Wilmington Island United Methodist Church.
The burial will follow in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.

Tom was a very effective leader without being overbearing. One morning at the mill, he came to production meeting with a ball cap with two brims. In the middle was 'I am there leader...which way did they go?!' This was a perfect testimony to his style...empower others to support the common goal. Tommy was a friend and confidant...I will miss him. Best to his other friends and family.
