Dorothy Zipperer Kicklighter

SAVANNAH – Dorothy Dot Zipperer Kicklighter, 91, of Savannah died on January 19, 2014 at her home with her loving family at her side. She was born April 8, 1922 in Savannah and lived there all of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, M.J. "Kick" Kicklighter, her parents, Era and Talmadge Zipperer, and her twin sister Doris Means.
She graduated from Savannah High School. She was a faithful, lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Temple. She taught Sunday School in the primary department and in the adult department. She belonged to the Love Sunday School class for many years and more recently has been an active member of the Invincible Bible class. She was a member of the Betty Boatright Mission Group of the WMU, the Tuesday morning craft class, and the Wednesday morning Bible Study at Calvary. She was a Matron of Bethlehem Chapter OES, a past worthy advisor of the Savannah Rainbow for Girls, and served as Grand Martha of the State of Georgia OES in 1948.
In 1951, Mrs. Kicklighter and her late husband founded what is today Savannah Tire & Rubber Co., Inc. The business they built has continued under family leadership for over 60 years.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. One of her greatest pleasures in life was attending every event and athletic competition in which the grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Hurley Cook, grandson Trey Cook and wife Libby, granddaughter Marla Grady and husband Alexander, great-grandchildren Jack and Lainey Cook, and Carson and Mary Paige Grady, special nieces Karen Klawin and husband Mike of Pooler, Gail Lanier and husband Bill of Atlanta, Kathy Johnson and husband Steve of White, Georgia, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to express our gratitude and deep appreciation to Janice Shelton for her friendship and devotion to 'Mrs. Dot' the past several years, Ruthie Lingle our Home Health Nurse and to Katie Aiken for the compassionate care she gave Mrs. Kicklighter.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Temple. Interment will follow at Bonaventure Cemetery.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Kicklighter. During our years in Savannah 2008-2010, she touched my heart. We attended church with her at Calvary and my husband worked at Bethesda.
