Tybee Island – Mrs. Maureen Lanier Jones Lanier, 87, passed away January 28, 2014 after a short illness.
She was born February 22, 1926 to Maureen Sullivan Jones and Edward Pacetti Jones in Savannah, Georgia where she attended Catholic schools and graduated from Savannah High School.
Lanier lived in numerous cities around the United States with her husband Alfred Lanier who wrote for the Associated Press. Lanier and Al retired to their beloved Tybee Island where they enjoyed the slower-paced lifestyle of island living. She will be missed by her many friends who enjoyed her high spirits and quick wit. A devoted member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Lanier was faithful to her religion and regularly attended mass.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Sidney Lanier and is survived by her brother William Sullivan Jones Nellie of Savannah, twin sisters Isabelle Jones Stevens Bill of Sacramento, California, and Gladys Jones Valls John of Laredo, Texas, 9 Nephews, and 2 Nieces.
The visitation will be at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Tybee Island, on Monday, February 3, 2014, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service.
