James Alexander Salmon

Savannah- James Jim Alexander Salmon, 78, a resident of The Landings on Skidaway Island, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2014, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by all of his children and his loving wife Mary.
Born in New York, NY in 1936, Jim was the son of the late Thomas and Flora Salmon and was the younger brother to Thomas R. Salmon. He married the former Mary Elizabeth Farrell in 1962. Together they raised four children, and were blessed with eight grandchildren.
Jim earned his Bachelors Degree from Fordham University, Bronx, NY. While at Fordham he participated in the ROTC program and upon graduation served two years in the United States Air Force, leaving the service with the rank of Captain. He went onto attend and graduate from Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA; earning a Masters in Business Administration MBA.
After graduating from Stanford University, Jim was a regional and district sales manager for the Lincoln Mercury Division of the Ford Motor Company. After 15 years of service he left Ford in 1976 and relocated his family to Reston, Virginia. Jim was the President of Potomac Leasing, a division of Moore Cadillac with headquarters in Tyson Corner, VA. After 25 years of service, Jim retired from Moore Cadillac in 2001.
Jim and Mary moved to Savannah, GA in 2001. He was an avid golfer and an active member of The Landings Club. He and his wife were also members of St. James Catholic Church.
A devoted and diehard Washington Redskins fan, Jim was also known for his undying passion for college football. While he rooted for Michigan, Virginia Tech, South Carolina and Georgia, without question, Notre Dame was his favorite team.
Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years Mary Elizabeth Farrell. Their children, spouses and grandchildren; son James and wife Sheila, grandchildren Katherine, Claire and Jack; daughter Marybeth Morsberger and her husband Michael, grandchildren Courtney and Allison; daughter Christine, granddaughter Colette; son Michael and wife Krista, grandchildren Elizabeth and Anna.
Jim is also survived by his older brother Thomas R. Salmon and his wife Ruth. Jim also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitefield Avenue, Savannah, GA.
