Arthur Herbert Buxton

SAVANNAH – Arthur Herbert Buxton, 98, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Azalealand Nursing Home.
Born October 6, 1915 in Surrey England, he was the son of the late Herbert and Elsie Buxton.
After completing his formal education, he enlisted in the British Army prior to the outbreak of World War II, in 1939, and served as an Infantry Officer in the Royal Fusiliers Regiment. He served in the Italian and North African Campaigns and returned to England in the winter of 1946 having attained the rank of Major.
He met Thelma Capper Neves and they were married in October of 1941.
After the war Mr. Buxton resumed his business career with Midland Bank. In 1952 the family moved to Canada where he pursued a career in importing-exporting and was CEO of the Toronto and Montreal offices of Knowles & Foster.
Moving to Savannah in 1965, he continued his career in importing with Burlapack and retired as an accountant from Leaseway in 1981. In 1995 he married Margaret Elaine Hussey.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Roebling and her husband, Henry D. Roebling, and Elizabeth Lackey and her husband, Gary W. Lackey, all of Savannah; two grandsons, Charles B. Roebling of Charlotte, NC and Frank B. Arden IV of Savannah; two step-daughters, Cecile Chadwick of St. Petersburg, FL and Barbara Daly of Charlotte, NC; and six step-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with The Rev. Gavin G. Dunbar and The Rev. Craig O'Brien officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff of Azalealand for the kind and loving care given to Mr. Buxton and also for the prayerful support of many friends.
