Maria Handiboe Wance
Maria Handiboe Wance, 63, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at her residence. She was born January 16, 1951 to the late Aloysius and Mary Handiboe. Maria was a nurse for many years, working at Memorial University Medical Center for over 20 years, and Hospice Savannah for 15 years. She was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and also attended St. Michael's Catholic Church on Tybee Island. Maria sang in the St. Vincent's Choral and was also a cheerleader for Benedictine Military School. She was one of the founding members of the Daughters of Ireland.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Aloysius Handiboe, III.
She is survived by her husband, Harvey E. Wance, of Savannah, two daughters, Megan Hodgson, Geoff of Atlanta, and Cecelia Lane, Austin Thornton of Savannah, three stepsons, Douglas E. Wance, Brian S. Wance, and Sean M. Wance, all of California. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Grace, Bryant, Elle, Abigail, Lauren, Lorena, Christian, Avery, Pamela, Rayna, and William.
A Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.

I will always remember our Sat. fun at Tybee! We worked in the clinic at MMC and she was a great person and nurse. She loved being a wife, mom, and meme. Our love and sympathy to you all, Suzanne and Shep Ingram

I knew Maria when she was a very small child and we lived on 58th Street in Savannah in the 1950s. She was a sweet, precious little girl who had lovely parents, Al and Mary Handiboe. Jesus loves her.

I worked with Maria for many years at hospice. I do know two things about Maria she was a great nurse and she loved her family. I would frequently run into her at the grocery store and she would fill me in on all the latest news with her girls . I am deeply sorry for your loss you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
