My absolute fondest memories of childhood center around Papa’s house with what always seemed like mountains of boiled shrimp, Tanner’s hot dogs and endless pies. My heart was so saddened when I heard the news. I knew his before I really met him. I remember the days as a young girl, and as a teen working my first job at J.C. Penneys, going to Tanners, standing at the counter having my orange drink and hot dog. My absolute fondest memories of childhood center around Papa’s house with what always seemed like mountains of boiled shrimp, Tanner’s hot dogs and endless pies. Papa was at the center of the show – dancing in the kitchen and singing a little ditty that begged you to laugh. Those were days full of great southern cooking, playing with cousins down by the creek and sitting around the carport listening to Papa, Grannie and the rest of the adults tell story after story that usually led to belly laughs for all – a good day’s entertainment long before the Internet, iPads and mobile phones could so easily distract. My heart aches that I won’t be able to reminisce with him about those “good ol’ days” or hear him call me “Becky Lee from Tennessee” again. I miss him already but am forever grateful for his loving and joyful presence in my life. Les, Brockton and I send our love to the entire family. Rest in Peace, Papa.
