Bounpheng Sriratanakoul
SAVANNAH, GA - Our beloved Husband, Father, Brother, and Uncle, Bounpheng Sriratanakoul, passed away suddenly at work on Monday 12 May at the age of 61. Bounpheng was born to Mee and Phong Sriratanakoul on 8 May 1953 in Vientiane, Laos. In 1974 he married his dearly loved wife of 40 years, Soudta, and had their daughter Souriya the next year.
In 1975 the Communist government took over in Laos. Bounpheng had finished school and was taken into a hard labor prison for the next five years. In 1981 he was given a furlough to see his family. Later that year his Son Sriravong was born and then he escaped with his family across the Mekong River into Thailand. They lived there in a United Nations refugee camp for three years, when they immigrated to the USA in December 1984. He soon built their house in Hardeeville and lived there ever since.
Bounpheng was quickly hired as a mechanic at the Derst Baking Company where he worked for 18 years. In 2003, he began a new job as a maintenance mechanic at the City of Savannah Water Works where he worked until the day of his tragic passing.
Bounpheng was preceded in death by his daughter Souriya last year on April 14. He is survived by his wife Soudta, son Sriravong, granddaughter Emma, daughter-in-law Katie, many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews all over the world and many close coworkers. He will be dearly missed by all.

I remember times when I was very young Mr. Siratanakoul would work on his garden and when he started to cook his corn I don't know what he did but that was the absolutely the best dang corn I have ever had. I also remembering him being an even keel guy with a happy and always smiling man. My condolences to the family.

We will always have fond memories of the man who welcomed us into his family when our daughter married his son. He was a person with a big heart full of love. It is an honor to have spent time with him.
