Gloria Virginia Werner Strang

Gloria Strang passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014 in Battle Creek, Michigan at the age of 88. A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, with Elder Barbara Kaneiwa officiating. A reception will follow at the home of Jeff and Carol Walsh.

Gloria was born on September 10, 1925 to Arthur and Anna Papke Werner in Detroit, Michigan. She married Richard C. Strang on August 10, 1946. She is survived by her daughters Linda (David) Barnett and Carol (Jeff) Walsh, grandchildren Ben (Teresa) Barnett, Kelly (James) Carroll, Abby Barnett, Andrea Walsh and great-grandchildren Sebastian Walsh Carroll and Jackson Lane Barnett.

Gloria lived most of her life in the Detroit, Michigan area and was a snow bird in West Palm Beach, Florida. She lived in Savannah, Georgia from 2004-2012. Gloria was a homemaker and part time secretary for Trerrice Insurance Agency. She enjoyed volunteering at the Livonia Library and later, working with babies and disabled youth in West Palm Beach, Florida. She attended Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church in Savannah and loved her weekly job of folding the church bulletin with her Presbyterian Women's Circle. Gloria enjoyed visiting with her daughters, grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Gloria encouraged many people with her determination. She gradually lost her eye sight to Macular Degeneration, but always tried to stay as independent and upbeat as possible by seeking solutions to her challenges.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Association of the Blind, 214 Drayton St., Savannah, GA 31401.
