Betty Hasty Geriner

Betty Alice Hasty Geriner, 72, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, surrounded by her beloved family after a long fought battle with cancer.
She was born in Macon, GA May 4, 1942 to Hal and Lois Hasty and moved to Savannah when she was three months old.
Betty graduated from Savannah High School in the class of 1960. During high school she worked part-time at the old Sears Roebuck & Co. After graduation she attended Armstrong Jr. College and then worked in the Trust Department of the C&S National Bank on Bull Street. Later she worked at the Georgia Welcome Center for the Dept. of Industry & Trade. While there she traveled the state promoting all the tourist attractions in Georgia.
Betty was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension where she and Richard were married and where she was a member of Rebecca Derrick Circle and participated in the care of the altar linens.
While working at the C&S Bank she married her lifelong husband and they shared fifty wonderful years together. The family moved to Skidaway Island in 1977 and raised their four children, dogs, and numerous pets there. What a wonderful place to live, grow up and make lasting friendships.
Later on in life, Betty and Richard spent time at their Tybee Beach House with family and friends. Sitting on the beach was one of her favorite things to do with friends and grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her husband Richard M. Geriner, Sr.; her four children, Richard M. Geriner, Jr. and his wife Janet, Craig Geriner, Andrew Geriner and his wife Annette, and Laura Hooks and her husband Robert Hooks of Ashville, NC; and her brother, John Wilkes Hasty.
Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Richard M. "Tripp" Geriner, III, John Carter Geriner, Holden Butler Geriner, Andrew Carter "Beau" Geriner, Jr., Harmon Laurel Hooks, and Henges Joseph Hooks.
The family would like to thank the Medical Support Team, including Dr. Roland Summers, Dr. Grant Lewis and the staff of the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Thursday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension at 11:30 AM Friday, June 27, 2014. Private interment to follow.
The family invites friends to visit the Geriner home after the service at 7 Marmaduke Lane, The Landings.
